Etherow IBC welcomed short mat bowlers from around Stockport this weekend to participate in, and watch, the annual Bernie Fennell and Mike Biggs knock-out cup finals. The Stockport Metro Indoor Bowling League (SMIBL) competitions which have run throughout the course of the 2024/25 short mat season, saw 39 of the 46 teams in the league battle against each other over three rounds before the top teams came together to play the semi-final and final this weekend.

The semi-finalists for the Bernie Fennell competition were Poynton A who knocked out Davenport Golf Club B with a score of 59 to 53 and Woodley A who knocked out Davenport Golf Club A with a score of 60 – 37.

In the lower division’s Mike Biggs cup, the semi-finalists were Etherow A who knocked out Brinnington C with a score of 59 – 43 and St Albans C who beat Etherow B 55 – 48.

The final of the Mike Biggs cup saw Etherow A take a convincing win against St Albans C after a score of 60 points to 40.

The higher division’s Bernie Fennell trophy was taken by Woodley A after an all-square 48 across finish saw the event go down to nail-biting tie break ends which saw each pair play two ends to allow Woodley to claim victory and the trophy for the 2024/25 season.
